Card Game Ink Recognition Glasses

Nowadays, the old ways of cheating at poker and other card games are gradually being replaced by high-tech devices like invisible ink marked cards, poker analyzer scanning camera, IR contact lenses and sunglasses to read backside marks. These devices allow the cheater to identify the markings on the backside of the cards without having to be present at the table. However, it is still difficult to catch the cheaters using these devices under natural lighting conditions. This paper introduces a new method to detect invisible ink marks printed on playing cards by finding the difference in color components to reveal the presence of invisible ink coatings on the playing cards.

The invisible ink marks can be made on the playing cards by applying a thin layer of invisible ink that produces an absorption effect on the light passing through it. This causes the light to travel in different paths, which leads to a dispersion of its color components. Depending on the color of the invisible ink, the resulting dispersion can be detected by a person wearing a pair of IR-active sunglasses or other IR-transmitting filters.
